Dateline Boston...Redline...Rush hour.
Me (quietly to myself of course, I'm not THAT crazy yet): "Man am I glad this week is almost over. I am SO looking forward to a nice long weekend in Florida hanging out by the pool."
Knitty me: "No kidding! Just think of all of that knitting time on the plane and by the pool...."
Me: "Oh no! I'm about to go on vacation and I.DON'T.HAVE.ANYTHING.ON.THE.NEEDLES!!!! Oh my god! Must....have....more...knitting."
Knitty me: "Don't be ridiculous, you've got a sock to finish, the 2nd of that pair to knit, and a Dulaan baby hat in your homespun to rip back and redo. That's plenty for a long weekend in which you are also going to be at Disney World."
Me: "Oh shit...Disney...Memorial Day weekend. That means lines. Long, long lines. It's not enough, it's just not enough. I'll kill someone if I have to stand in long lines in miserable, baking heat with screaming children and NO KNITTING. Must....have....more...knitting."
Knitty me: "Oh sure, because you're REALLY going to be knitting in line at Disney World. Shut up and get back to this scarf. You're almost finished."
Me: "See?!?! Almost finished! That's one less project! I'm looking at 8 hours of travel time down there, if I'm lucky and there are no flight issues -- on Memorial Day weekend, uh huh - that's going to happen. Then there's the OOODLES of knitting time once I'm there, and the 8 hours (see above) of travel on the way back. Must....have....more...knitting."
Knitty me: "Oh for pity's sake. Get a grip. Just take enough yarn for another pair of socks and it will be fine."
Me: "No, no really, look, remember how we were talking to Melanie yesterday about a summer tank pattern? Remember? SHE'S taking a tank on vacation! See, I think I should take a project like that. Don't you think so? I mean, come on, it'll be Florida, we won't even want to think about wearing socks, much less knitting them. There will be a million free knitting hours, there's a boatload of new summer yarns in the stash, and all that's needed is a pattern, right? How hard can it be? Swatch tonight, start tomorrow. Piece of cake. Right? Must....have....more...knitting."
Knitty me: " Well....a summer tank WOULD be nice, not to mention a fun knit....
But no, there are plenty of projects going on, not to mention tickets to a play tonight, work tomorrow, and the next thing you know there will be up-all-night-packing to make the flight. No. There's just no time to start a new project."
Me: "Oh don't be such a spoil sport! Of COURSE there's time! Must....have....more...knitting."
Knitty me: [Sigh] "Oh all RIGHT, but make it fast....and easy. And NO MATH! Yarn and pattern must match."
Me: "Hooray! I win, I win! More knitting!!!"
Pattern: Ribbon XBack from the Spring Knitty
*Whew* That was close. Also, try not to mention it to Knitty me, but I suspect there will be at least a little bit of math.... Also? Not swatching. Oh yeah, I'm a rebel.
