Good as Gold?

While the original Olympic sweater is still a few days from completion, my last-minute entry of a raglan baby sweater was finished with some time to spare! Here's hoping that our lovely hostess will keep this blog running just a bit longer so that I can post pictures when my sweater is completed.

Congratulations to all who finished in time -- go rest those knitting hands in buckets of ice!

....can't...talk...must...knit.....

There's obviously no Gold medal in my future, because it's true...I....DID....NOT....FINISH.  Two long weekends of traveling (yeah?  so what that one of them was a knitting retreat?), combined with 14+ hour workdays in between them, topped off with a weekend filled with a wedding shower in New Hampshire and a bastard of a cold, all conspired to knock me clean out of the running.

It's a heartbreaking defeat, but I will not be daunted.  I will not give up.  I WILL finish this sweater THIS WEEK or die trying.  The torso is complete and the hood has about 6 rows completed.  There's also about 6 inches of a sleeve.  I can DO it.  I can.  Stop laughing. So you see, I can't talk now.  MUST.KEEP.KNITTING.

ETA: For all of you out there still finishing up.....a KAL and button.  Because what's a cause without a button?

My thanks to the Femiknitmafia for helping us *ahem* slowpokes stay motivated.

Ouch

I guess my mom was right.  You should always expect the unexpected.    For a mix of the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat, check out my progress... and/or lack thereof!

Going for Gold

The elevator* told me today that Bode Miller is going for his final chance for gold on Saturday. I know everyone's sick of Bode, but I can't help but empathize with him.

I too went in to the Olympics with high hopes.

I too have failed miserably in my attempts.

I've made exactly 1 row of progress** on my Olympic Knitting since last Thursday. Because my work schedule is, um, demanding, my whole Olympic strategy was based on a weekend away at a knitting retreat. One would think that when away with Knitters, you would actually Knit. Maybe even be able to Knit All Day. Ha! When I wasn't out and about chatting and mingling, I was sitting at my wheel totally addicted to the gorgeous fiber I had just purchased.

I never even took my Olympic Knitting out of the bag.

My Olympic hopes were dashed, and I accepted the worst. I had to work Monday, so no all day holiday knitting. And since Closing Ceremonies were Saturday, there was no way during my work week I'd be able to squeeze in the time...

and then yesterday afternoon I found out that Closing Ceremonies are Sunday.

And I started to think about it. If I knit during lunch today and tomorrow... After work tonight, and then tomorrow night's Friday, so I doesn't matter how late I stay up. We're painting on Saturday, but I can knit between coats......

I might just be able to pull this off. It's not going to be easy. I'm only a little further along than this, but because of Saturday I have one last chance at gold.

And I'm going for it.

Citius Altius Fortius!

* The elevator where I work has little screens that flash the weather forecast, the word of the day, and current news items. These screens save me from having the awkward I'm-alone-in-an-elevator-with-you-for-32-floors conversation with a complete stranger. We all stare transfixed at the screens instead. Which is much better.

** I knit the one row last night before going to bed. I wasn't about to dedicate myself solely to this hat for the next 4 days without spinning up at least a little of the Grafton Fibers batt:

I'm in love.

Almost a Sweater!

It turns out that the shortest distance to a completed sweater isn't  always a straight line.  There's an update on my blog!

1.5 hats, 2 mittens...

Took a break from full-on knitting to do some quilting but I have *almost* finished two more pieces for the Dulaan Project (the lovely backgrounds are my husband's bonsai collection -all indoors because they aren't exactly winter-hardy)

One down

Fan_1_palmThe first mitten is done. Ends woven in, all ready to block. I used half the remaining navy on the ribbed cuff as best I could judge by weight so it's a tad shorter than the pattern calls for. I have long fingers and should have thought to check the thumb before doing decreases. Oops! It really ought to be a little longer but it'll do. Any suggestions for mitten blocking?

Monogamy, Procrastination, and a little Progress

Yeah, I'm having a LITTLE bit of a hard time sticking to one thing as well.  I made some progress, but it was not without its distractions.  Here's the update!

Monogamy is Hard!

(If only Talking Barbie had said THAT!)

Although the Nothing-But-A-Tshirt is moving along swimmingly, it's hard for me to remain true to one knit. (Perhaps this explains my single-dom status?!) I figured since NBC also took a break to show NASCAR, it was ok for me to spend an hour seaming another knit. But now if I don't finish, I have no one to blame but myself and my slutty ways.

So here's the NBAT - front and back finished!

And fellow Knitsmith, Thea, has been having some problems posting so on her behalf, I present to you her first pair of socks! See her blog for more info: http://babycocktails.blogspot.com/ (if i was a blogger, i would know how to link . . .)

Keep on truckin' everyone!

Did I mention I hate DPN?

Hi everyone!  Coming to you from Worcester!  So I began knitting my armwarmers during opening ceremonies and quickly realized they were going to be more time consuming than i first thought.  It didn't even occur to me that i'd have to use double-pointed needles (which I don't really have i've been using my boye needles from my needlemaster kit ).  So it's been taking me a long time to make progress since i keep dropping stitches, cause they slip off the ends of the needles and then of course there's the transferring of stitch from one needle to the next to make progress.  So I'm at row 16 and there's 50 rows of pattern.  Of course I didn't work on it at all yesterday, spent time with my sweetie instead.  So I gotta spend some quality time catching up.  So here's what I've got so far.
